Seckou Keita (drummer, percussionists & kora player with Baka Beyond) is descended from the famous ruler and founder of Mali, Sundiata Keita. Traditionally the musicians of Mali (the jali) would entertain the royal family by conveying epic stories through song. Seckou was brought up by his mother's family (the Cissokhos) in Senegal and inherited his jali or griot tradition through her.
"Baiyo" is a mix of solo kora pieces and compositions with other musicians including Martin Cradick (mandolin), Paddy Le Mercier (violin and whistle) and Su Hart (vocals) from Baka Beyond as well as Leon Hunt on banjo amongst others.
